Virology

Studies in the area of virology are coordinated by the Pittsburgh Committee for Virology (PCV), which brings together Pittsburgh area scientists and physicians who work in a wide variety of basic, clinical, and molecular aspects of virology. More than 30 faculty members participate; their interests include virus structure and control of viral gene expression, mechanisms of viral pathogenesis, treatment of viral disease in humans, and the use of viruses as vectors for gene therapy. A major strength of this group is in the area of persistent viral infections, such as those caused by herpes and HIV-1.
